MARY'S BEGINNINGS

I have been an artist all my life and I don’t think I can separate life from art. I began my artistic endeavor at the age of 6 while in the hospital for a year in quarantine with Spinal Meningitis, Romantic Fever and pneumonia. I died three times as my organs began to fail from constant high fevers and comas. Eventually I survived with a unique view of life. My career as an artist began at the age of 14 creating a wedding portrait. They say people who have died and come back experience unusual abilities...mine is the ability to create art that speaks to the soul.  I consider my work to be unusual and at times a bit edgy, which is necessary to interpret humanity. I am constantly evolving and so is my artwork. My long history as an artist has created an extensive following with collectors around the world. . I strive to continue create art that makes people think, to search within themselves and experience new ways of seeing the world which brought me to create the Shaman Vision Deck. People have found the images in the deck to be profound in touching their souls. 

2009– 2020: Moved to Canon City, Colorado where I continue to create paintings, sculpture, give art classes and workshops, retreats and woman’s circles. Worked at Michael’s at Main art gallery in public relations and resourcing artists. I also took the position of Chairperson for First Friday Art Walk for Canon City, CO where I also open REM Art Gallery in 2016 (now closed during Covid). I am also a judge for art shows and competitions. I also conduct workshops on the creative process and am a facilitator for “What the Bleep do We Know” workshops. I continue to promote local artists, give workshops and presently creating a line of Steampunk Surreal paintings as well as abstracts.  

2006-2008: Completed numerous interior and exterior murals. Fabricated 3D fantasy theme retail store in California. Created the ‘The Art of Being You’ Workshops along with Shoshanna April, LCSW, BCD, CHT.I Began creating ‘Inner Vision Portraits’. Owner / Designer of ‘Bohemian Funk’ ™ Clothing Line showcased at As You Wish, Lake Tahoe, CA . Organized the San Anselmo New Moon Psychic Fair 2008 in Marin County, CA.  

2003-2006: Opened Adventure Graphics II in Huntington Beach, CA. Published book: “Creating from Your Soul”, design, sculpture, painting, teaching & workshops on creative process. Gallery Director, Huntington Beach Art Association. Judge for art competition Cal State Fullerton.  1991-1995: Opened Kona Studio, Kona, Hawaii. (Sculpture, painting and teaching.  Developed 9 step workshop/lecture on the creative process).  

1992-2003: Adventure Graphics Art Gallery and Studio. (Screen-printing, illustrations, sculpture, painting, workshop facilitator on creative process. Shaman Drum making workshops. The Art of Being You workshops. Creating from Your Soul workshops. Art classes.  1978-1991: Opened Medusa Graphics (illustrations, logo design, murals, and sculptures).  

1969-1977: Free lance fashion illustrator in London, Miami and New York.
